Outdoor Adventures: Fishing, Pétanque, Mushroom Hunting, and Foraging

An English-speaking guide will accompany you on your adventure, which includes a hearty outdoorsman's breakfast or apéritif with local wine and homemade pastis. Contact us at contact@provenceoutdoors.com for more information or to book your adventure.

Fishing (lake, river and sea)

Spend a morning fishing in the Mediterranean or one of Provence's most beautiful lakes or rivers! Experienced sportsmen will marvel at the natural beauty of the countryside, while beginners will learn how to assemble the rod, use the various lures, cast, and, with a little luck, catch some, sea bream, sea bass, pike, perch or carp.

Pétanque (boules) lesson and tournament

Spend the afternoon mastering Provence's most popular pastime, the game of pétanque, also known as boules. You'll learn to shoot, score, and even cheat while overlooking one of Provence's most magnificent landscapes. And since no game of pétanque is complete without a drink in hand, the rosé and pastis will be flowing!

Mushroom Hunting

Mushroom hunting excursions are available from October 1 until November 15 (weather permitting). During your time in the Provence forests you will learn how to distinguish between edible and poisonous mushrooms. We will hunt for about 10 different varieties, including: cepes, chanterelle, golden chanterelle, hedgehog mushroom, blue stalk mushroom, Tricholoma myomyces, Saffron milk cap, white saddle, elfin saddle, and black trumpet. You'll discover the quiet, unspoiled forests of the area and enjoy the bucolic and relaxed atmosphere of Provence.

Foraging

Hike the hills of the Luberon in search of fossils from 20 million years ago, when this part of Provence was underwater. During this beautiful nature walk, you will learn to recognize fossils, identify wild herbs growing naturally in the countryside and drink homemade Pastis mixed with water from a natural spring, like a Provençal native straight out of a Peter Mayle novel.
